What makes a good disinfectant?

• It causes the death of the pathogens and is germ-killing (bactericidal / fungicidal).
• Makes viruses harmless (virucidal)
• Is especially skin-friendly

To meet these optimal conditions, disinfectants based on ethanol must contain a 80% active ingredient content, or in the case of isopropyl alcohol or isopropanol (abbreviated IPA), a 70% content.
An altered dosage is significantly less effective against pathogens or viruses.
The base of the disinfectant also determines the characteristic odor. To improve skin-friendliness with very frequent use, a moisturizing additive is recommended.

When should you use disinfectant?

The disinfectant does not replace basic hand hygiene through washing with soap.
Furthermore, there are no fixed rules. Whenever you find yourself in a situation where the threat of pathogens negatively affects your personal well-being, you should reach for the disinfectant.
This boundary is, however, fluid. A gastrointestinal illness in a household member may require it just as much as a worldwide pandemic.

The best effect is achieved with thorough hand washing with soap and subsequent disinfection with Ballistol Hand Disinfection.

This ideal case is not always the case:
Example shopping: Many transmission routes offer shopping carts, deposit machines, as well as packaged goods that have been touched by various people, and lastly the payment terminal.
After there is no opportunity for handwashing here, disinfect your hands on the spot and wash them thoroughly at home.
Example public transport: Handrails serve your safety during the ride. Doors usually open automatically, but sometimes need to be activated via a button.

Hands should be disinfected as follows:

Hygienic hand disinfection according to CEN EN 1500.
Pour Ballistol Hand Sanitizer into your palm, dry hand (equivalent to about 3 - 5 ml).
Perform the hand disinfection step by step with both hands for a total of 30 seconds.
Repeat each step multiple times until the mentioned time has passed. Keep your hands moist during the entire process, possibly adding more disinfectant.

Do not dry off.

	Distribute the disinfectant as follows:
	1. step Rub the palm of one hand against the palm of the other, don't forget the wrists.
	2. Step Rub the palm over the back of the hand and between the fingers.
	3rd step rub the palm of one hand against the palm of the other hand with interlocked, spread fingers.
	4th step rub the outside of the fingers.
	5th step Circular rubbing of the thumb in the closed palm and vice versa.
	6th step Circular rubbing of the fingertips in the palm and vice versa.

The process for maximum hand hygiene:

Wash your hands with soap by lathering the palm, back of the hand, fingers, thumb, finger spaces, fingernails, fingertips, and the edge of the hand for at least 20 seconds, then rinse with running water to remove the soap and dirt mixture.
for at least 20 seconds to lather and then rinse off the soap-dirt mixture with running water.
Now dry your hands thoroughly (preferably with disposable hand towels) to prevent the disinfectant from diluting.
Now cover your hands with the disinfectant and, using washing movements, keep the aforementioned body parts moist with the disinfectant for at least 30 seconds.
This time is needed for the product to unfold its effect and evaporate on its own.
After disinfecting the skin, contact with textiles or hand towels should be avoided not only due to the risk of re-contamination.
Also, the loosened natural oils from the skin would be wiped off and the skin would become even more dry.

How do you disinfect properly for frequent use?

Due to their profession, hairdressers, salespersons, and service staff, i.e., all occupational groups with high public traffic, often need to clean or disinfect their hands.
The horny layer of our skin has a barrier function and thus keeps pathogens away. Due to frequent washing, this barrier suffers.
The skin can only delay rebuilding this barrier, leading to a loss of oils.  
Also, hand sanitizers remove skin fats from the horny layer. However, these are not lost if the hands are not wiped or washed after disinfection.
For occupational frequent hand cleaning, refraining from disinfection and only washing hands is precisely the wrong approach, as this additionally removes fat from the skin.
Avoid washing and use the disinfectant directly on dry skin for frequent cleaning needs.
The hands should be thoroughly moistened and kept moist with washing movements for at least 30 seconds, then allowed to evaporate the disinfectant without rinsing or drying.
